Broken Pieces is a song full of heartfelt lyrics about how God can fix what is broken in us and how He sees us as more. But how did the song come to be written? One of the fun events they have in my Song Chaser community is having “Speed Cowrites.” Connecting through Zoom, we are split into a room with other Song Chaser members and given a word prompt and then we work together to write a song based on that prompt. Back in May 2023, I ended up in a speed cowriting room with Alan Nussbaum, Jamie Laurel Miller, Craig Wormack, & Jonathan Coates and we were given the prompt “Break.” After working on it for about 30 minutes we had a good start to this song and knew we wanted to finish it. Haha! One of the thoughts I had for the chorus was to use the word glue, to go with broken pieces. I was kind of joking, but a little serious. My idea didn’t make the song, but here is my old verse idea:
With shattered things
Your peace and love
Provide the glue
You give life to my heart
Life, only found in You
Healer of my soul
You bind up all my wounds
And make these broken pieces
New

I’m grateful for the way God leads us to good people and helps us through this life. He truly does make something new and better out of our broken pieces and helps us to see things in a better way, if we put our trust in Him.
