I Need the Holy Spirit

This song began with a request from a radio announcer friend of mine, who asked if I would write a song about the need for the Holy Spirit in order for us to survive spiritually. When I looked around at the noise, the division, and the constant pull on our attention, it felt like a very real need. I loved the idea of writing that song and got right on it.

I knew I didn’t want the song to become a warning or a declaration. I felt it very much as a prayer. I kept coming back to how often I feel unsure about what to believe, how easily confusion can creep in, and how even people I love can see things so differently. Rather than trying to sort through everything on my own, this song became a reminder of the need to keep turning back to God.

The lyrics reflect this in reading God’s Word, bowing in prayer, and trusting that the fruits of the Spirit bring peace, even when clarity feels hard to come by. The chorus lifts with hope, not because everything is all figured out, but because guidance comes when we ask for it with humility and trust.

I Need the Holy Spirit as a reminder to myself first, that I don’t have to navigate this world alone and that peace does not come from having the right answers, but from returning again and again to God and inviting His Spirit to lead.

My hope is that this song offers a gentle moment of calm for anyone who feels overwhelmed, uncertain, or tired of the noise. Let’s keep seeking the Holy Spirit in prayer and remember that we are never meant to do this on our own.

I Need the Holy Spirit (feat. Alexa Spanos)

Verse 1
Voices all around
They claim to be the truth
Deception everywhere
Lord, I’m trying to find You

Pre-Chorus
With deep fakes and heart aches
This world’s spinning round
Confusing and abusing
Where can pure light be found?

Chorus
I need the Holy Spirit
To guide my path each day
My spirit won’t survive this
Without Your Word to lead the way
I need the Holy Spirit
To whisper what is true
I need the Holy Spirit
To keep me on the path to You

Verse 2
People that I love
See things so differently
Politics and pride
Can break a family tree

Bridge
What keeps the Spirit with me constantly?
How do I know what to believe?
When I read Your Word and bow myself in prayer
The fruits of Your Spirit bring me peace
Lord, please be with me
