There are many quotes out there about how God doesn’t always calm the storm and sometimes he calms the sailor. I especially like this one by Nicky Gumbel. He said, “Sometimes God calms the storm. Sometimes He lets the storm rage and He calms you.” I took this idea and quote into a cowrite with Brittany Mackie and Michael Lacey and this song was born. It is such a blessing to write with talented, loving individuals who love the Lord Jesus Christ and seek to serve Him and others. Michael did an excellent job with the vocals and Becky Willard always makes everything sound the very best with her production. We all have our own storms to face in life, but during those storms, we can count on God to be that steady rock in our lives, and trust He can calm our soul, even when the storm continues. I hope that you will find that peace and calm in the middle of your own trials and storms.

VERSE 1:
When I’m calling out to You
God, take control
I realize You don’t
Always calm the storm
But You calm my soul
Oh You calm my soul
CHORUS:
You’re my stronghold
You’re my hope
Steady in the storm
Steady in the storm
You calm my soul
In all the unknown
Steady in the storm
Steady in the storm
(Oh, You’re steady in the storm)
VERSE 2:
In the middle of the trial
It’s so hard to see
‘Til I reach the other side
I’ll still believe
That You calm my soul
You calm my soul
BRIDGE:
When depression hits, anxiety drowns
There’s no one else around
You calm my soul
Let the rain dry up and the winds die down
I know You’ll bring me to favored ground
You calm my soul
Oh, calm my soul
FINAL CHORUS:
You’re my stronghold
You’re my hope
Steady in the storm
Steady in the storm
You calm my soul
In all the unknown
Steady in the storm
Steady in the storm
Cause You’re my stronghold
Oh, You’re my hope
You calm my soul in all the unknown
Steady in the storm
Steady in the storm
Steady in the storm
