God Planned for Families

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve spent more time looking back on the families we grow up in and the ones we build along the way. Some memories feel warm and steady, while others are harder to hold. Family life can be one of the places where we experience the most joy and, sometimes, the deepest challenges.

Over time I’ve begun to see that those experiences shape us in ways we may not recognize at first. The good moments show us what love can look like, and the difficult ones often teach patience, forgiveness, and compassion. Even the imperfect parts can become places where we learn and grow.

When I was writing God Planned for Families, I found myself reflecting on the idea that families were never meant to be flawless. Instead, they are places where people are learning together. Parents and children, siblings and friends, each trying in their own way to understand love a little better.

And for those whose family experiences feel complicated or incomplete, there is still a quiet reassurance in knowing that no one is outside God’s care. In the end, we are all part of His family, and He walks beside us as we keep learning, forgiving, and growing.

God Planned for Families (feat. Alexa Spanos)

VERSE 1
As I’ve gotten older
I look back on childhood
The scary times and tough times
And times that were good
I recognize the family
As a place that we learn
As children and parents, in turn

PRE-CHORUS
There’s no easy answers
Just God’s word to guide
Mistakes are made by all
In this life

CHORUS
God planned for families
To teach us all the things
He wants for us to know
God planned for families
To challenge everything
So we could learn to love, forgive
And someday grow
To be more like Him

VERSE 2
As parents we bring patterns
We learned when we were young
Some are good and some are bad
We work to overcome
We love and teach our children
The best way that we can
Try to help them so they’ll understand

BRIDGE
And some feel abandoned and all alone
Their families are gone, no kids in their home
But lessons are there in all types of life
We’re all part of God’s family, and He’s by our side
