Prepare My Heart

Christmas is a beautiful, magical, and busy time of year. Sometimes our focus gets wrapped up in all the decorating, shopping, activities and even friends and family and we have little time left to focus on Jesus Christ, the reason we are celebrating. Just as it takes preparation for the festivities of Christmas, it’s important to mindfully and prayerfully prepare our hearts so we keep the Lord present in our thoughts. This is something I’m trying to do more every day of the year, not just at Christmas.

I feel so blessed to have been able to take this song I started on my own and work on it with Robin Engala, Phyllis Ricker, and Al Compton. Together we polished it up and then Becky Willard worked her vocal and production magic. Hoping this song helps you feel the Christmas spirit and begins your own preparations to remember what matters most this season and always, God’s Holy Son.

Lyrics

Prepare My Heart
Suzanne Hodson, Robin Engala, Phyllis Ricker, Al Compton

Christmas preparations, the trimming of the tree
Shopping for presents and everywhere I see
Lights and decorations, there’s so much to do
But in the thick of business, will I remember You

Lord, before this Christmas season even starts
Or gets too far, prepare my heart

Open my eyes to the wonder of Your love
The infant babe, sent from above
The wise men teaching me to seek
Give gifts of love, with wisdom speak
Yes, before this Christmas season even starts
Or gets too far, prepare my heart

Dinner preparations, a family Christmas feast
But for my hungry soul, Your Word is what I need
Though time seems to speed up, I need to slow down
And spend more time with You, no matter who’s around

Prepare my heart for what matters most
Your Holy Son, announced by heavenly host
Let me remember Your promise, the love you impart
Oh, please Lord, prepare my heart

Open my eyes to the wonder of Your love
The infant babe, Your Holy Son
The wise men teaching me to seek
Give gifts of love, with wisdom speak
Yes, before this Christmas season even starts
Or gets too far, prepare my heart
Yes, before this Christmas season even starts
Or gets too far, prepare my heart
