This song began with a request from a friend who is walking the hard road of addiction. They asked if I could write something about the struggle between the pull of “spirits” and the life-giving presence of the Holy Spirit. Out of that request came Turn My Heart to You.
While the song was written with those facing addiction in mind, it really speaks to all of us. Every one of us has struggles, weaknesses, or desires we’d love to overcome. The Lord loves us deeply right where we are, and He invites us to continually turn our hearts toward Him for strength, guidance, and healing.
Turn My Heart to You is a reminder that we don’t have to fight battles on our own. God is always ready to help us when we turn to Him. Whether it’s addiction, doubt, or simply the daily distractions that pull us away, He can meet us in our weakness and transform our hearts.
It was such a blessing to work on this song with Donita, Zelda, and Becky—their talents and hearts added so much beauty and depth. I’m grateful for the chance to share this song and pray that it encourages you, wherever you are on your journey.
May this song remind you: no matter what you’re facing, you can always ask God to turn your heart to Him.

VERSE 1:
Caught up in desire for things that do not last
So much pain and sorrow in my present, from my past
All this hurting and craving, for things that do not fill
There is no easy answer in a bottle or a pill
VERSE 2:
I’ve spent time in worship, and I’ve prayed for relief
But it’s hard to break bad habits, when I see them as a need
I’ve made so many choices, bringing chaos to my life
Tried to numb grief and trauma, God, I need some peace of mind
CHORUS:
Lord, turn my heart, turn my heart to You
Lord, turn my heart, turn my heart to You
Give me the power to leave behind what isn’t true
Lord, turn my heart, turn my heart, please turn my heart to You
VERSE 3:
I know You love the sinner, You know what’s in my heart
You’ve seen the things I’ve worshipped, but now I need to start
Start to worship You fully, and surrender everything
Knowing You are the only place where healing can begin
BRIDGE: (rap)
The spirits in my body haven’t always been from God
Purchased in a bottle, it only makes life hard
But with the Holy Spirit, my spirit can be free
God, please give me strength and eyes to clearly see
The way out of this bondage; wanna give You all of me
