Kaleidoscope

It seems like everywhere we look we see disharmony and division over every topic imaginable. Jesus invited us to love everyone. When we find ways to find mutual ground and care about others, it is beautiful, like a kaleidoscope. When I first had the idea for this song, I was looking around at all the many colors of summer and thought how the colors are complimentary to each other and make our world spectacular. If only we can learn to live with more acceptance and inclusion and peace! (I’d actually first thought of the word kaleidoscope while I was driving and heard the song “Karma Chameleon” by Culture Club and was trying to think of another alliteration like that and thought of “Color Kaleidoscope.” 🤣) Gratefully, I took the idea to a cowrite with Zelda and Donita and the song turned out so much better than if I’d done it on my own. I love writing with these amazing individuals and I’m so glad Zelda was willing to do the vocals! I hope this song helps others have a greater desire to work toward more unity and kindness in every relationship.

Lyrics:

Kaleidoscope (feat. Zelda Nera Hutzenbeler)
By Donita Dawn Heringer, Suzanne Hodson, and Zelda Nera Hutzenbeler
Written 8/24/2022

VERSE 1:
Looking out
At the colors of diversity
Will we be
Pulled apart by what we see
It’s up to you and me
To come together now
We will be what we decide to choose
Even with opposing views
There is no excuse
Time to call a truce (ooooo)

CHORUS:
Kaleidoscope
I see me in you
When we come together
Everything is more beautiful
Kaleidoscope
Many different hues
When we come together
Life is more beautiful
When we’re a kaleidoscope

VERSE 2:
Tomorrow is
The culmination of the steps we take
Every day
Don’t let time slip away
Be kind with what we say (ayayay)

BRIDGE:
Kaleidoscope
Don’t let fear control
Love gives us hope
Kaleidoscope
Kaleidoscope
Don’t let fear control
Kaleidoscope
Love gives us hope
When we’re a kaleidoscope
